Hello, my name is Diane St. Jean. I live in rural New Hampshire, and my home studio is my creative refuge. I love ink and paper, antique wood and metal type, and vintage presses.
I made my first linocuts and woodcuts when I was a teenager. There’s nothing quite like inking up a block, adding paper and pressure, and finally revealing the image. And you can make multiple copies!
As a young designer, I worked in the marketing department of a printing press manufacturing company and was steeped in the notion of “the power of print.”
After a career in graphic design, I had a second career as a middle school educator. As a teacher and librarian I was in a position to see how stories affected students. In the pages of books, students grew; they developed empathy by reading about others who may have been like them, or unlike them. That’s the power of print.
As a printmaker, I am able to combine all my favorite skills: illustration, design, typography and carving. I hope to use the power of print, on a small scale, to make human to human connections—one note card, poster, linocut, or collagraph at a time.
Thank you for visiting my website.
